Long-Term Running Goals:

1.  Enjoy running 'til I drop dead - and put that off as long as possible.
2.  Don't get burn out :-)

Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

10.1 miles in Smithfield with Claire.  Nice and easy pace. Picked up a pair of Kinvara 3s.  A lot lighter than I'm used to.  So far I like them.

8.5 mile out and back in North Logan at noon.  82 degrees.  First mile was a good easy pace, I ran it with a co-worker that just started running.  He turned around at the 1 mile mark and I kept going and turned around at 4.24.  Good easy run in the heat.  AP somewhere in the high 7 min/mile pace.

Noon:

1.08 miles with a co-worker who is just starting out.  Slow easy warm-up.  Then broke off and went 9.67 in a loop in North Logan, up to the deer fence trail, joined up with the Ragnar runners who were running it.  I ran on the that section of the Ragnar course for about 4 miles, and then broke off and ran back to work.  Nice jog, not too fast.  Last 9.67 was in the high 7 minute mile pace.  Jogged with a few Ragnar runners who were going slower and chatted with them a little on the course.

AM:  9 miles up/down Smithfield Canyon with Claire.  She wasn't feeling that well so we ran nice and slow.

Noon:  4 more with our dog (chihuahua, jack russell cross).  Not to good of a run.  A little less than a mile, a yellow lab came running out (probably trying to play) and took me down.  I landed on my stomach, skinned/bruised my knee, and scrached my glasses.  Not too bad, so I got up and we kept going.  A block later we ran past a fence.  Two blue healer dogs started trying to go after us.  One reached his head through the fence and grabbed my dog and started shaking it.  I had to kick the thing in the head to make it drop our dog.  I checked out my dog...not really hurt, so we kept going really slow.

The good thing about todays running was that I finally passed 1000 miles for the year!  OK for a fat old clydesdale jogger.  I will try to get another 1000 by the end of the year.
