I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005. I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running. He said "You'll never run again.". What a challenge! So...I started running.
Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.
I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all. I'm not fast. I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

| 8 miles in Provo. Came down with Conner to pick up his packet for the half marathon tomorrow. Ran 4 miles up the marathon course, from the finish and back. Nice and slow, not keeping track of time. Fun run. Taking tomorrow off before hitting it harder next week. |

12 miles up and down Smithfield Canyon. Nice and easy run. 7:45/mile average pace. Met Conner going up when I was coming down about at mile 9. He went up some more and caught me when I hit mile 10. Saw Paul going up. Conner stopped and waited for me at the Golf Course hill and we ran a bit together. Fun times, nice day!
Next week I'll start ramping up again on the miles, and continue working on diet.

| 7 miles up and down Smithfield Canyon again. Nice run, felt good. I created a "course" from the same 7 mile run of Smithfield Canyon I did a while back, selected the course on my Garmin, and raced against myself on the previous run. It was fun. Also a nice morning to run, some clouds, and a little sprinkling... 7:18 average/mile.
