Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

AM:  9 miles up/down Smithfield Canyon with Claire.  She wasn't feeling that well so we ran nice and slow.

Noon:  4 more with our dog (chihuahua, jack russell cross).  Not to good of a run.  A little less than a mile, a yellow lab came running out (probably trying to play) and took me down.  I landed on my stomach, skinned/bruised my knee, and scrached my glasses.  Not too bad, so I got up and we kept going.  A block later we ran past a fence.  Two blue healer dogs started trying to go after us.  One reached his head through the fence and grabbed my dog and started shaking it.  I had to kick the thing in the head to make it drop our dog.  I checked out my dog...not really hurt, so we kept going really slow.

The good thing about todays running was that I finally passed 1000 miles for the year!  OK for a fat old clydesdale jogger.  I will try to get another 1000 by the end of the year.
