Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races. 

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

6 easy miles out and back in North Logan at noon.  2 degrees (F) when I left, 0 degrees when I got back--interesting.  Ran with a co-worker. Still icy and cold.  Good run, he did it a second faster per mile than the last time I ran with him, and it was much colder...

Couldn't run at noon as we had meetings.  It was around -2 at 6:00 in the afternoon, so Claire and I went down to the Smithfield Rec Center and ran.  8.75 miles on a treadmill in 1 hour.  6:51/mile pace.

This morning I threw my back out shoveling snow, but I was bent on going for a run anyway.  6 painful miles.  I started out at doing a slow shuffle at about a 9:30 pace.  After about a mile things actually started loosening up and I sped up a little.  Still did the 6 miles in a 8:15 AP pace in the snow, slush and ice.  Probably should have taken the day off but what the hey...
