I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005. I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running. He said "You'll never run again.". What a challenge! So...I started running.
Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.
I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all. I'm not fast. I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

| 6 mile out and back at noon with Blake (co-worker). Great day--36 degrees, a little sunny, and the inversion has been blown out so the air quality was great. A little slush in a few spots on the first mile but other than that it was great! 6:58/mile AP. Mile 1 - 6:44 - Flat 2 - 7:24 - Uphill 3 - 7:46 - More Uphill 4 - 6:23 - Back downhill 5 - 6:30 - Downhill 6 - 7:00 - Flat

| 6 miles in North Logan at noon. Good jog. 7:15/mile AP. At about 1.3 miles into it the battery on my garmin died. Since I am on-call, I had to take my cell phone, but before I started I thought I'd use endomundo and track the run on my cell also. Good thing. |

| Went with John (co-worker) at noon. He is getting a lot faster. 6 miles in North Logan at a 7:28/mile pace. Felt good. No ice, slush or puddles on the road. Second run that ended with dry feet in over a month. |
