Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

My old favorite 6 mile out and back at lunch.  Nice jog.  7:30/mile AP.

Picked up Conner last night at around midnight coming home from Footlocker in California.  Finally got to sleep about 2:00, and woke up at 5:30ish.  I've not been getting that much sleep lately.  Reminds me of the good ol' Army basic training days back in 1986.  Time to work on getting more sleep :-).

6 miles out and back in the cold rain at noon.  This was one of those runs where you think you are going real slow (estimated about 7:45/mile), but ended up at 7:12/mile AP.  Fun run in the rain.

8 mile out and back in North Logan at noon.  Lot of snow, slush, and it was wet.  Starting to get slippery.

Had a great jog...somewhere about 7:35/min average pace.  During the run I was finally able to think about my quick trip to San Diego to watch Conner and let everything sink in.

Had an awesome weekend - Flew down later on Friday and went to the Footlocker Nationals on Saturday morning to watch Conner.  I was able to find Rob Murphy and had fun visiting with him and getting a lot of pointers.  After the race I stuck around a bit, then went over to Coronado, met Conner, walked around on the beach, took pictures, etc.   Also great to talk with Kramer and Ben, take a few pics of them, and had a great walk/jog on the beach.  I was also able to visit with some relatives for a little while that I hadn't seen in around six years or so.

Later we went to the Awards Banquet at the Hotel Del.  Glad Conner was able to get an extra ticket as the food was ok, but not quite worth how much they were asking if you had to pay for it.  It was awseome to see Meb give them their All-American medals.

Then flew back on Sunday.

It has been fun to see Conner make goals, work towards them, and then reach them.

Plenty of time to reflect and make some new goals for myself, both in running and not running--funny how this sport seems to help improve your life in areas other than running.

8 mile out and back at noon.  Forgot my garmin, so I ran with my iPhone using endomondo.  Thought I had more battery, but the battery died just before mile 2.  Based upon my start and end times, ran the 8 mile in about 59 minutes, which is a 7:23/mile pace.
