2.  Don't get burn out :-)

Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

10 miles in the morning.  64 degrees (better than 90 on Monday at noon). Back to my old favorite training run--up and down Smithfield Canyon.  Good tempo run.  Lots of elevation gain and loss.  7:30/mile AP.

10 with Conner, up and down Smithfield Canyon (easy slow run for him, faster tempo run for me).  Fun run-favorite running course..

1st mile we gain a little, then lose about 150 feet.  The next four up Smithfield Canyon we gained about 630 feet.  Then back down the same way (lose 630 feet the next four, then gain 150 feet for the last mile).  7:20/mile AP.

Afterwards, ran 8 miles with Claire.  Same course but turned around a mile early for the 8.  Ran a bit slower...

Overall, averaged 7:44/mile for the entire 18.  Good for the tough course.

Got dehydrated...  When I left, I weighed 208.  After running the 10 with Conner, I drank about 16 oz.  Then on the run with Claire, we stopped at 6.5 miles at a park, and I drank another 16 oz.  Got home and weighed in at 200.  So subtracting the 2 lbs I drank, I lost 10 pounds of sweat.  Overall, good running today.  Felt great!
