Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

10.25 in Smithfield.  Interesting run-Scheduled to do 16.  At noon my wife and I went out and ate some great Italian food (salad, soup, garlic bread sticks, etc.).  Really tasted good, and I overate a little.  Waited about three hours afterwards and went out on my run.  The first mile was ok, but a little slow.  The 2nd mile my stomach started feeling really bad.  By mile 4 it had moved from my upper stomach to lower stomach and hit fast and hard.  By that time I was up a Smithfield Canyon a little way, so I was able to jump a fence and find a good bush.

Stomach still felt bad.  Then my left knee started aching right under the knee cap.  As I continued up Smithfield Canyon it got so bad I had to stop running and walk a little.  My stomach was doing flip-flops still so i turned around and jogged home.  I cut it short and went up the golf-course hill.  Right under my left knee cap, it started hurting again and I had to walk up the hill--seemed to only really be painful uphill.

At least I went for a jog today.  We'll see how it goes on Monday.
