Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

Good--not so good 20 miler.  When I got up I was wishing I'd registered for the TOU Half Marathon.  Did a bunch of stuff around the house, and then went out in the afternoon for my 20.

At the start I felt great.  Pretty hot out but felt good.  At 5 1/2 mile I grabbed a 32 oz poweraid I placed, and drank down about half of it.  I was thirsty.  I drank the rest on-and-off up to the 10 mile turn around at the campground in Smithfield Canyon.  When I got to the campground, my stomach wasn't feeling good.  There is a manual water pump you at the campground that you have to push a bar up and down to get water out of a spring.  I filled up the 32 Oz water bottle and spent a few minutes drinking it...very thirsty.  Threw the bottle away in a trash can and I took off.  After a mile my lower stomach started feeling not so good, so I slowed down a bit.  It got worse and worse until I got to the 15 mile mark at Mac Park.  I grabbed another 32 Oz Water bottle I placed at mile 15, drank it and tried to use the restroom at the park.  Then took off again.  Got down to mile 17 1/2 and my stomach wasn't feeling good at all.  Felt so bad I had to shuffle (super slow jog) the rest of the way home - walked a little too.

Both Conner, Claire, and my wife had similar issues with their workouts.  At the first they felt great, but about 3/4 into it their stomachs acted up as well.  We must have eaten something that didn't set well the night before.  Overall, I still went 20 :-).

Afterwards, went on my bike and pace Claire on her 8 mile run.

Not a whole lot of text to your entries these days Rob. Looks like a good run today though.

Yeah :-) I need to update them. Good job on the TOU Half Marathon winning the Masters. All morning long I was kicking myself for not registering for it. But then when I went on my 20 mile run, my stomach was acting up pretty bad so I was glad I didn't. Later...
