1.  Enjoy running 'til I drop dead - and put that off as long as possible.
2.  Don't get burn out :-)

Personal:

I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005.  I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running.  He said "You'll never run again.".  What a challenge!  So...I started running.

Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.

I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all.  I'm not fast.  I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

My old favorite 6 mile out and back at lunch.  Nice jog.  7:30/mile AP.

Picked up Conner last night at around midnight coming home from Footlocker in California.  Finally got to sleep about 2:00, and woke up at 5:30ish.  I've not been getting that much sleep lately.  Reminds me of the good ol' Army basic training days back in 1986.  Time to work on getting more sleep :-).

Are you heading down to San Diego this weekend?

I'd love to stay at the Hotel Del Coronado where the runners are staying but I'm just a humble schoolteacher!

It's an incredible experience being a Foot Locker finalist. The kid's end up feeling like Olympians.

Yes I am planning on going down. I'm in your boat about staying at the Hotel Del Coronado. I was thinking about just going down in my truck (that has a shell), put a mattress in the back and "Beach-Bum" it.

South of the Hotel Del, (about 4 miles) there is a campground called Silver Strand State Beach. It is probably around $30/night--may just do that. I'll have to call them and get info and decide what to do afterward.

Should be a lot of fun. Let me know what your plans are. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

You've gotta be really proud of Conner!
